MAC Group is pleased to mark a significant milestone in its fleet development with the successful launch of the first 25,900 DWT duplex stainless-steel chemical tanker being constructed for the Group by Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry.
The vessel was launched on 14 February 2026 in Ruichang, Jiangxi Province, China. As the first in a series of four sister vessels, this achievement represents an important step in MAC Group’s long-term strategy to expand its modern chemical-tanker fleet and strengthen its capabilities in the global liquid-bulk shipping
The four-vessel programme is MAC Shipping’s first newbuilding project. Ordered in 2024, the series reflects the Group’s confidence in the specialised chemical-tanker segment and its commitment to investing in safe, efficient and high-quality tonnage. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2026.
Each vessel will have a deadweight capacity of 25,900 tonnes and will be constructed with duplex stainless-steel cargo tanks. This advanced material is particularly suited to the carriage of a wide range of chemical products, offering enhanced corrosion resistance, durability and flexibility for demanding trading conditions.
The vessels are designed to carry IMO Group II and Group III chemical cargoes, as well as Annex I oil cargoes. With this cargo flexibility, the new buildings will enable MAC Group to better support customers across the chemical, energy and related supply chains.
At approximately 159 metres in length, with a beam of 27 metres, the 25,900 DWT chemical tanker design combines cargo capability with operational efficiency. The vessels are being built to comply with the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Index Phase 3 requirements, supporting reduced emissions intensity and improved energy performance in line with the shipping industry’s decarbonisation direction.
The project also demonstrates MAC Group’s emphasis on quality, safety and regulatory compliance. The vessels are classed by the American Bureau of Shipping and are intended for international trading, meeting the technical and operational expectations of modern chemical shipping.
The launch reflects a meaningful partnership between a Singapore-based shipowner and a Chinese shipbuilder with growing capabilities in high-value vessel construction. For MAC Group, it represents progress from strategic planning to physical delivery. For Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, the project is a notable addition to its portfolio of sophisticated chemical-tanker construction.
As the first vessel moves into the next stages of outfitting, testing and delivery preparation, MAC Group looks forward to welcoming her into service. Together with the three subsequent sister vessels, the new buildings will form an important part of the Group’s future fleet and reinforce its commitment to providing reliable, responsible and efficient maritime transportation solutions.
